Rod M. Buyer and Seller
The Story of Christopher Cruz
“Rod was referred over to me by my loan partner, Robert Bushnell with Navy Federal Credit Union. Rod was in the market looking for a new construction home in the competitive Seattle Market. He had a good idea of what he wanted so we quickly visited several new communities and toured their model homes. After narrowing down our selection and deciding on Blueberry Lane, we made an offer and were excited for the construction of his new home to begin.
We thought getting an offer accepted, as the availability of homes for sale was very low, was going to be our biggest challenge. To our surprise, there was a long extended delay of over 12 months in getting the foundation poured and the rest of the building to start. There was a lack of communication from the builder during this long anticipated 12 months on the root cause of the delay. When we did receive any response from the builder, it was vague and just informed us that permits from the city haven’t been issued with no estimated time frame given.
Unfortunately, the extra long delay was a huge inconvenience for him as he had to find other living arrangements while he waited for his new home to be built. Throughout the entire process, I made sure to consistently keep Rod updated even though there was nothing new to communicate. I made sure his concerns were heard by the upper level management and they understood how dissatisfied we were.
I reassured Rod that my #1 goal was to provide a great experience and to let me know if there was anything I can do to help. Once the building process started, I made sure to keep everything on track from that point forward. I tried to make myself available as much as possible throughout the various building process checkpoints. I also explored the best solutions possible throughout each obstacle.
After almost 2 years, the closing day finally came and he was eager to get settled in. This was not the end of our interactions, I continued to occasionally stay in contact with him and see if there was anything else I could do to help. He is not only a client but I consider him to be a good friend.”
The Takeaway
Negotiation, knowledge of the market, and experience are all great traits and are needed to make a successful agent. But sometimes what your client needs is simple: to know that they come first.
This should be the foundation of marketing efforts for all agents; to think of clients’ needs and concerns first. Doing whatever you can for the customer sets you apart from others and you will be remembered positively despite whatever problems and misfortunes may happen along the way. Christopher Cruz is a good example to follow when it comes to supporting clients.
